Peter Dunlea

Peter Dunlea is a Solicitor at Crushell & Co Solicitors, advising clients on workplace accidents, occupational injuries, employer liability, health and safety obligations, and the employment consequences that may follow an injury at work. As a qualified solicitor with several years’ experience representing clients before the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court, Peter brings extensive advocacy and dispute resolution experience to matters involving injured employees and workplace safety.

Peter advises on claims arising from a broad range of workplace incidents, including slips, trips and falls, manual handling injuries, defective machinery or equipment, inadequate protective equipment, unsafe premises, accidents involving workplace vehicles, falls from height, and failures in training or supervision. He also assists clients with occupational conditions that may develop over time, including repetitive strain injuries and illnesses connected with exposure to harmful substances or unsafe working environments.

A central aspect of Peter’s work is examining whether an employer took reasonable and practicable precautions to protect its employees. This may involve consideration of the relevant risk assessments, safety statements, training records, operating procedures, maintenance documents, accident reports, protective equipment, and the level of supervision provided. He approaches each claim on its particular facts and recognises that liability must be established by identifying a failure to meet the appropriate standard of care rather than relying solely on the fact that an accident occurred.

Peter also has significant experience advising on the employment law issues that can arise following a workplace injury. These may include sick leave and absence management, medical assessments, fitness to work, rehabilitation, reasonable accommodation, disability discrimination, capability procedures, return-to-work arrangements, and proposed termination of employment. His understanding of both contentious and advisory employment law allows him to consider the wider consequences of an accident for the injured person’s employment and future earnings.

Peter studied Law and Economics at University College Dublin and completed his solicitor training with the international law firm Maples and Calder. His academic and professional background has provided him with a strong foundation in legal analysis, commercial decision-making, litigation strategy, and the assessment of financial loss.

Peter is committed to achieving positive outcomes for his clients through strategic advice, effective advocacy, and clear communication. He works closely with clients throughout the claims process, ensuring that they understand the legal issues, the evidence required, and the practical options available to them.

Outside of his legal practice, Peter is an avid rugby fan and has represented Ireland at the Warhammer 40,000 World Team Championship on multiple occasions.
